Kuwait Purchases Ubimex Upgrade

Ottawa, Canada - Mar. 15, 2005 - Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Kuwait upgraded their Novell based HMX5000 AFTN system supplied by Honeywell Ltd. to UBIMEX-a AFTN System from Ubitech Systems Inc. This system, installed at the airport in Kuwait City was commissioned within 30 days by Ubitech Systems Inc. The upgrade provides DGCA, Kuwait a system capable of handling diverse range of interfaces including X25, CIDIN, COP with speeds of up to 56 kbps as they migrate from slower TTY channels to a WAN based airport wide network. Additionally, the 'new' system provides a comfortable progression from AFTN to ATN, making Kuwait, perhaps the first country in the region to claim ATN readiness.

The strength of UBIMEX-a is it's architecture. This fifth generation internet type design provides the modularity, flexibility and the scalability of the present day internet and goes beyond the traditional AFTN design criterion. The UBIMEX-a uses Active Replication technology to ensure correctness and guaranties zero message loss of all acknowledged messages. The technology provides safeguards of all messages in the event of failure, may those be hardware, operating system or application. Connectivity is point-to-point over serial port or over WAN, with simple configuration change only. Whereas the cascading architecture provides unlimited growth (by adding Front-End Processors, Local AFTN Servers etc.) the internet type architecture provides the flexibility to connect internal or external gateways such as AMHS, Internet, FAX, WMO etc. and act seamlessly. This modularity is evident when the UBIMEX-a accommodates newer technologies with simple change in configuration or module - with no additional hardware.

The 'new' system comprises dual redundant servers from Hewlett-Packard with 2.6 GHz Xeon Processors, 512 MB Memory expandable to 2 GB, 60 GB SCSI hot swappable Hard Disk Drives running under a UNIX operating system. The UBIMEX-a provides capacity of 80 channels of which 40 are currently used. The Pentium 4 based workstations from IBM run under the Windows XP™ operating system - providing users with a generic system that promotes an easy-to-use environment. In addition, Kuwait AFTN System is equipped with

  • Active Replication Software
  • Online and Offline Archives
  • Remote Diagnostics and Monitoring
  • Comprehensive Statistics for ICAO
  • Wide Area Network based Architecture
  • Mono-Term and Flex-Term Workstations

With the advent of ATM/CNS and "single sky" initiatives worldwide, DGCA, Kuwait has taken the required step to be ready for ATN.

Ubitech Systems has, and continues to, provide DGCA, Kuwait with exceptional technical support accompanied with around the clock customer service. One of the key missions of Ubitech Systems is to provide customer support that the customer is happy and comfortable with.
